Fu Kang Carryout Reviews

I ran across this carryout going to a neighboring business, and just decided to grab a quick bite to eat. I ordered Shrimp fried rice, chicken wings and fries. Everything was delicious! I'm really picky when it comes to my rice and they made it the way I love it!! Needless to say... it's my new favorite carryout spot

Chuck... that's the owners name, everyone who came in knew his name. Parking wasn't an issue at 3ish. Cute little carry out. Stopped here because of the ratings and the cleanliness ratings on Yelp. I met a few Neighborhood patrons. I love DC. I love the culture. I used to live in DC but it seems as though my Texas accent is making me stick out like a sore thumb but the DMV is home. So many regulars come in and you know that it has to be a good little spot. We got the cheese steak, it came with American cheese not the white cheese... we got the beef and broccoli and also the orange chicken. I wouldn't give it 5 stars but definitely worthy of 4 stars. Customer service was great even though he had so many customers in and out who had called in orders. There are lots of carry outs off of this street so I'll know soon which is best!

I ate Fu Kang growing up in DC. I have not been in 15+ years. Its still just as good.

This is a hidden jewel in all the chinese restaurants DC has to offer. Simply: $5 for a lunch special which is BIG, TASTY and CHEAP! I can't find any other place that can offer good food at this price. The chinese guy in the cashier is very friendly, although they hid behind reinforced glass (You know, RIA is not the safest place in DC). I always try any new chinese restaurant by buying their Moo Goo Gai Pan, and for God's sake, it's a blessing! Good amount of chicken, perfect steamed white rice and for just 5 bucks! I can't ask for anything else. Just try it! You will NOT regret!

Fu Kang rocks!!! Chinese and American food whatever you like, they have on the menu. If its not on the menu ask, they may still be able to whip it up, lol. They even make collards and they're good, who'd a thunk it. I have been going since the 90's same mgmt. The people are nice and friendly.

Fu Kang Carryout in Washington DC serves fresh, flavorful Chinese food that keeps customers coming back
Walking into Fu Kang Carryout, you won’t be met with fancy decor or a bustling dining room. What you will find, though, is a packed menu, a steady stream of locals, and a kitchen that delivers piping hot orders with speed and care. The shop sits quietly on the edge of Woodridge, but the flavors coming out of this small kitchen are anything but quiet.
The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. Customers rave about General Tso’s Chicken, shrimp lo mein, and the egg foo young, each dish served with generous portions and perfectly balanced sauces. There's something nostalgic about the way Fu Kang prepares its food—nothing feels overdone or overly trendy. It’s just classic Chinese-American comfort food, done right.
We visited on a Friday evening and watched locals flow in for their regular orders, greeted by name and asked if they wanted “the usual.” It’s clear that Fu Kang Carryout isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a part of the neighborhood’s rhythm. If you’ve ever lived in DC and craved a dependable takeout joint after a long day, this is that place.
Exploring the menu, customer favorites, and the reasons people love coming back
If you’re not sure what to order, the orange chicken is a top pick—it’s crispy without being too oily, glazed in a sweet-spicy sauce that hits all the right notes. The sesame beef has a rich depth to it, offering a nice crunch and a hint of smokiness. Vegetarians aren’t left behind either: tofu with mixed vegetables and vegetable fried rice are both hearty, satisfying options.
The value for money here is impressive. Most combos come with rice and an egg roll, making it easy to feed yourself (and maybe a friend) for under $15. In an area where food prices are climbing, Fu Kang still feels affordable without cutting corners.
What makes it even more special is how easy the process is. Call ahead, place your order, and pick it up in 15-20 minutes. Many customers note that Fu Kang Carryout is their go-to because it’s “reliable, quick, and always hot.” The team doesn’t just cook—they remember faces, preferences, and even toss in the occasional extra sauce packet without being asked.
Fu Kang Carryout’s connection with the neighborhood and its role in local food culture
Sitting just off Rhode Island Avenue, Fu Kang Carryout fits right into a DC dining culture that values neighborhood institutions. In a city where new restaurants open constantly, it’s the dependable, family-run spots like Fu Kang that truly define how locals eat. The location makes it accessible for commuters, families, and college students alike. With easy parking, a straightforward pickup process, and no-fuss service, it becomes clear why this place draws such a loyal crowd. We spoke with one nearby resident who shared, “I’ve been coming here for six years. It’s part of my week.” That kind of relationship between a diner and its community is rare.
And when it comes to reviews, Fu Kang consistently earns praise for taste, portion size, and consistency. Whether it’s Yelp, Google, or word-of-mouth, customers highlight the same strengths: flavorful dishes, reasonable prices, and a crew that gets your order right. Every time.

This spot here is my whole childhood, grew up eating from here and man, the food, ESPECIALLY the steak n cheese is great! Chuck and his wife are very friendly people and I love them so much. It's a cash only spot so keep that in mind when visiting. Also, I'd recommend getting a Mix to drink, you'll thank me haha.
